Seven Ravens Board Game

A simple folk game played in our family with elements of play from a variety of cultures, Seven Ravens is an exciting game to play. After searching for the game in historical games and not finding it, we have decided to write down the rules and add some variations and release it as its own game. Played on a 7 by 7 board (but easily played on an 8 by 8), each player has a total of 7 pieces, consisting of 6 pawns, and one that is Odin’s Raven (king), the different pieces moving differently. The objective of the game is to capture all of the opponent's pieces without losing your own.
The game board should be set up as shown in the images, each player setting up in a corner, with Odin’s Raven (the king) leading the flock. Black goes first. The Ravens move any number of vacant squares along a row or a column, like a rook in chess. Odin’s Ravens (the marked pieces) move using knight’s moves, and capture using chess rules as well as the other capture described below.
All pieces are captured if they are sandwiched between two enemy pieces along a column or a row. The two enemy pieces should either be on the square above and below or on the square to the left and to the right of the attacked piece. A piece is only captured if the trap is closed by a move of the opponent, and it is, therefore, allowed to move in between two enemy pieces. A captured piece is removed from the board and is no longer active in the game. Odin’s Raven may take part in this type of capture, but may also capture using chess rules, where the piece may land on an opposing piece to capture. All pieces are able to be captured using either method. The game ends when either side captures all pieces, or if one player cannot move, the entire flock is considered captured and thus the other player wins.

Included in the game is a full set of rules and variations, 7 white and 7 black pieces, the board, and a small cloth bag to keep them in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Warnings:

Warning: Wooden items including wooden swords, wands, and other items can be dangerous if used improperly. Weapons should be used under the supervision of a trained martial artist. Broken items should never be used in practice or play, and should be replaced immediately as broken items can cause severe injury.

Liability Disclaimer

Disclaimer and Liability: Any and all purchases or interactions with this business warrant the acknowledgement of a waiver of Cloud Home Crafts, owners, employees, and associates, of any and all liability regarding products sold by Cloud Home Crafts, Cloud Industries and affiliate companies. This liability waiver includes but is not limited to mental or emotional harm and distress, physical injury of any sort, including bruising, scratches, cuts, loss of motor function, loss of teeth, eye injuries, allergic reactions, broken bones, internal injuries, and/or death, or any other related injury.

Has anyone ever hurt themselves with your wood swords or wands?

We have had no reported major injuries with our wooden weapons or wands, and we take extra precautions to insure that our products are designed in such a way to prevent injury. Bruising has occurred when products were used improperly, but larger injuries are possible since the wood swords and wands can be easily misused. Adult supervision is highly recommended at all times as well as supervision with a martial artist when items are used for contact sport or play. But if used properly, our products are very safe, and very fun. :)

Is The Wood Listed Really the Wood Used?

Yes, to the very best of our knowledge. We use 100% wood of different kinds for our wands. For example, if we say the wand is an Oak wand, it is made from Oak wood. Our wooden swords are made from pine unless otherwise specified.

What happened to the Walnut Stain option?

We were having some issues with inconsistent results while using our Walnut Stain recently, so we have made the decision to no longer keep Walnut Stain as a standard option for our displays. If you want a walnut stained display, please contact us and we will set it up as a custom order for the same price as our other displays, that way we can monitor the quality more directly and give you the best quality product available. We will also be releasing limited quantities of displays made out of Walnut wood (not stained) here shortly, so keep an eye out for that!

My sword doesn't fit any of your displays. Do you make custom size displays?

Yes! We make custom size displays all the time! You actually help us out quite a bit by letting us know what's missing from or display options. We usually charge the same price for custom displays as all of our standard options. Be sure to check all of our different variations before asking, as we have quite a few, but we are more than happy to help!

I seem to only be able to purchase one display of the color I wanted even though it says you have more in stock. Why cant I purchase more?

Nothing is wrong with your computer or Etsy- what typically is happening is we are almost sold out of the color option you wanted. We do try to keep up with demand, but other responsibilities sometimes take precedent. We will typically have other displays of the same type but a different color in stock, and is why there is a discrepancy. If you run into this issue, please contact us with what size and color of display you needed, and we will prioritize making those as soon as we can.
